Baseball Game Preview: Gateway Legacy Christian Academy Lions vs. Liberty Eagles

The Gateway Legacy Christian Academy Lions will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Liberty Eagles at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. Liberty took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Gateway Legacy Christian Academy, who comes in off a win.

Last Tuesday, Gateway Legacy Christian Academy made easy work of Elsberry and carried off a 13-1 win. The game marked the Lions' most dominant victory of the season.

Simon Ruiz made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Gateway Legacy Christian Academy is 2-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 3-6 otherwise. Ruiz was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Luis D?az was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. That's the most runs he has posted over his last four matchups. Isidro Santos also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Gateway Legacy Christian Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .611. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, after soaring to ten runs the game before, Liberty was a bit more limited in their contest on Tuesday. They lost 11-1 to Chaminade. The game marked the Eagles' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

The win made it two in a row for Gateway Legacy Christian Academy and bumps their season record up to 5-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Liberty, their loss dropped their record down to 3-3.

Gateway Legacy Christian Academy might still be hurting after the 12-1 defeat they got from Liberty when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can the Lions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
