Softball Game Preview: Warwick Wildcats vs. Goshen Central Gladiators

The Warwick Wildcats will head out to challenge the Goshen Central Gladiators at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Warwick's pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so Goshen Central's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Warwick proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by 13) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past Cornwall Central 3-1. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Dragons recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Goshen Central). They blew past Washingtonville 21-0 on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Gladiators, who have now won five contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Addison Freiberger made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Olivia Jordan was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sophia Springer, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double.

Goshen Central hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in seven consecutive matches.

Warwick's record is now 9-5. As for Goshen Central, their record now sits at 9-2.

Warwick was able to grind out a solid win over Goshen Central when the teams last played two weeks ago, winning 6-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
