Baseball Recap: New Kent Wins Going Away Against Smithfield

New Kent never let their opponents score on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Smithfield Packers with a sharp 10-0 win. The Trojans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by eight runs or more this season.

Lane Boyette made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Michael Hetzel was a standout: he went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he hit this season. Another player making a difference was Bryce Hochman, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

New Kent always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .517. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Smithfield only posted an OBP of .167.

New Kent pushed their record up to 7-1 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Smithfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-3.
