Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Monroe). They strolled past the Valley View Spartans with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 82-64. While the Hornets didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

When it comes to explaining why Valley View lost, don't look at Brody Denny. Despite the final result, he went 10 for 25 on his way to 33 points in addition to five assists and five boards. Denny is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least three every time he's taken the court this season. Ty Fritz was another key player, dropping a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.

The victory (which was Monroe's third in a row) raised their record to 5-1. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.0 points per game. As for Valley View, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Monroe will take on Bellbrook in a holiday battle at at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Valley View, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Madison at 7:15 p.m. Valley View knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three matchups -- so hopefully Madison likes a good challenge.
