Baseball Recap: Basic Takes a Loss

After flying high against Faith Lutheran last Friday, Basic came back down to earth. The Wolves fell just short of the Bishop Gorman Gaels by a score of 3-2 on Thursday. The Wolves were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Gaels apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2025.

Johnny Villarreal was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched.

On the hitting side, Basic saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Matthew Kelley, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one RBI.

Basic's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Bishop Gorman, they pushed their record up to 3-0 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season.

Coincidentally, Basic and Bishop Gorman will both be playing Orange Lutheran the next time they take the field. The Wolves will head out to face the Lancers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Gaels will host them at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
