Basketball Recap: Ethan Nevinski's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Maplewood over Champion

Maplewood lost against Champion back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Maplewood Rockets fell to the Champion Golden Flashes 50-45. The Rockets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Maplewood's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ethan Nevinski, who posted 16 points. Another player making a difference was Andrew Donaldson, who had seven points and five steals.

Champion's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Damien Wickham led the charge by going 7 of 14 on his way to 18 points and five boards. Braylen Braham was another key player, going 5 for 8 en route to 13 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals.

Maplewood's loss dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Champion, their victory ended a ten-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-7.

Maplewood wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 55-30 win against Chalker on the 7th. Champion has also already played their next contest, a 77-62 defeat against Crestview on the 6th.
