Recap: West Grand Mustangs vs. Hayden Tigers
The West Grand Mustangs entered their tilt with the Hayden Tigers with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. West Grand blew past Hayden 51-25. Considering West Grand has won four matchups by more than 25 points this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
West Grand's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Makaila Gifford, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 steals. Those 12 steals set a new season-high mark for her. Sage Wheatley was another key contributor, scoring 22 points along with five rebounds and four steals.
When it comes to explaining why Hayden lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jenna Kleckler. Despite the final result, she scored 12 points along with five steals. Kleckler scored a full 48% of Hayden's points, the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
West Grand's victory bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Hayden, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-6.
West Grand will head out on the road to face off against De Beque at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully De Beque focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Tuesday. As for Hayden, they will be playing at home against Little Snake River at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Little Snake River presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Hayden in their respective states (Little Snake River is ranked 22nd in Wyoming, while Hayden is ranked 288th in Colorado).
