Football Recap: Mitchell Piles Up the Points Against Lennard + How To Watch

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Mitchell had no problem doing just that on Friday. They blew past the Lennard Longhorns 40-9. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won five contests by 25 points or more so far this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mitchell to victory, but perhaps none more so than Cayden Thomas, who rushed for 39 yards and two scores, and also threw for 44 yards and one TD. Daren Long also helped out as he racked up 101 rushing yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Mitchell was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 285 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in November of 2024.

Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 12 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Alex Fairbanks, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Several Longhorns players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ronnie Wilson, who picked up 50 receiving yards and one touchdown, and also rushed for 76 yards. Another player making a difference was Jacob Mobley, who threw for 191 yards and one TD.

The victory was the sixth in a row for Mitchell, bringing their record up to 9-2. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 11.5 points on average over those games. As for Lennard, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-3 record this season.

Mitchell will face off against Palmetto at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Mustangs will need to watch out since the Tigers have now posted at least 31 points in their last six matchups. Lennard does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
