The Elma Eagles will venture away from home to take on the Columbia Bruins at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Elma is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games.
Elma proved they can win big on Friday (they won by ten) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Toledo 9-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Eagles have posted since April 4th.
Meanwhile, Columbia got themselves on the board against Stevenson on Wednesday, but Stevenson never followed suit. They blew past the Bulldogs 23-0.
Wyatt Stelma and Jaden Wang made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Stelma pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Wang pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Stelma also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Columbia is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-10 otherwise. At the plate, Stelma went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Wang went 2-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those five RBI gave Wang a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Dylan Landgren, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ben Borton, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
Columbia always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .683. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Elma's record is now 8-9-1. As for Columbia, their record now sits at 8-11.
Everything went Elma's way against Columbia in their previous meeting back in April, as Elma made off with an 11-4 victory. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Bruins have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
