Basketball Recap: Andrew Trujillo's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Pueblo West over Rampart

Pueblo West was the 67-49 winner over Rampart when they last played one another back in January of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. The Pueblo West Cyclones took a 72-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Rampart Rams on Tuesday. The Cyclones have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Pueblo West's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Andrew Trujillo, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds. Trujillo is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down nine or more in each of the last 12 games he's played. Another player making a difference was Hunter Vertovec, who went 5-for-9 to rack up 11 points.

Rampart got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Isaiah Melecio out in front who dropped a double-double with 23 points and ten rebounds. Those ten boards gave Melecio a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Elias Bishop, who went 8-for-11 en route to 19 points and six rebounds.

Pueblo West's defeat dropped their record down to 8-7. As for Rampart, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-6.

Pueblo West has already played their next game, a 64-54 victory against Doherty on the 6th. As for Rampart, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 71-57 loss against Liberty on the 6th.
