The Northern Freeze co-op [Marshall County Central/Tri-County] Northern Freeze are taking a road trip to challenge the Mahnomen/Waubun Thunderbirds at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Last Friday, Northern Freeze co-op [Marshall County Central/Tri-County] came up short against Kittson Central and fell 7-4. The Northern Freeze have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Mahnomen/Waubun beat Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal 6-1 on Wednesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Thunderbirds.

Zach Zima was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Mahnomen/Waubun's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 6-2 (and 1-2 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Leeland Heisler, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Mahnomen/Waubun kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Mahnomen/Waubun's win bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Northern Freeze co-op [Marshall County Central/Tri-County], their loss dropped their record down to 3-6.

Northern Freeze co-op [Marshall County Central/Tri-County] was able to grind out a solid victory over Mahnomen/Waubun when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 4-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Northern Freeze since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
