Baseball Recap: Mayfield Gets the Win

Mayfield won the last time they faced Nordonia and things went their way on Saturday too. The Wildcats had just enough and edged out the Knights 5-4. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wildcats.

Aiden Galatis looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He is becoming a predictor of Mayfield's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 3-1 (and 3-13 when he doesn't).

At the plate, Preston Brown and JD Sega did most of the damage at the plate: Brown got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Sega went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double. That's the most runs Sega has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Ben Koret, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Mayfield's victory bumped their record up to 6-14. As for Nordonia, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-13.

Looking ahead, Mayfield will face off against St. Ignatius at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. St. Ignatius' pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so Mayfield's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Nordonia, they will challenge Chardon at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Hilltoppers will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Knights surely won't give up without a fight.
