Baseball Game Preview: South Anchorage Wolverines vs. Eagle River Wolves

South Anchorage has gone 8-2 against Eagle River recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Wolverines will take on the Wolves at 6:30 p.m. South Anchorage will come into the game with an undefeated record on the line.

On Saturday, South Anchorage made easy work of Lathrop and carried off a 10-2 victory. The Wolverines might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by eight runs or more this season.

Jack Zuspan made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Zuspan was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Peter Cornelius tossed a big game, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Chase Dixon, who went 1-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Chase Mascelli was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Meanwhile, Eagle River didn't have quite enough to beat Service on Saturday and fell 5-3. The loss continues a trend for the Wolves in their meetings with the Cougars: they've now lost six in a row.

South Anchorage pushed their record up to 9-0 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Eagle River, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 4-1-1.

South Anchorage couldn't quite get it done against Eagle River in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 as they fell 6-1. Can the Wolverines avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
