After a string of eight wins, Gretna's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They were just a hair shy of victory and fell 48-47 to the Altavista Colonels. The Hawks gained 384 more yards on the day, but it was the Colonels that made the best use of them.

Gretna lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Rayshaun Logan, who threw for 515 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 15.1 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 41 yards and one TD. Gretna's leading receiver Tysen Miller was Logan's top target yet again, picking up 287 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Cooper Brooks produced another solid effort rushing for 134 yards and three TDs, while also throwing for 89 yards and a pair of touchdowns for Altavista. Those 134 rushing yards gave Brooks a new career-high.

Gretna's defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 8-2. As for Altavista, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-3.

Gretna and Altavista should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings. The Hawks (ranked 111th) will meet Dan River (ranked 250th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 1,152 yards in their previous games. Meanwhile, Altavista will challenge Cumberland at 7:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (122 vs. 334).
