League recap: Barry throws longest pass in league this season for Athens

Aaron Barry and Cody Cain provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Wellsboro. The longest such play in Northern Tier 1 this season, the connection resulted in 79 yards.

The Hornets added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Athens, 52-14. The victory was the sixth in a row for Wellsboro.

Michael Pietropola threw for 405 yards and 5 touchdowns. He went 12-19 with 0 interceptions.

Luke Jennings was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 193 yards on 19 carries as Wyalusing Valley defeated the Wildcats. Teammate Dylan Otis added to the ground attack by rushing for 99 yards.

Leading Northern Tier 1 in both passing and receiving yards, the Hornets' Pietropola and Brandon Owlett have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-1 quarterback Pietropola has thrown for 1,485 yards this season, while Owlett has 21 catches for 644 yards. The Rams' Jennings leads the league in rushing yards with 881.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Troy takes on Towanda. The Trojans are in second place, while the Knights are in third place.

Towanda moved up to 262 from 312 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. James Wecker's team climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Mifflinburg 28-13.
