Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up 12 more assists than your opponent, a fact the White House Blue Devils proved on Friday. They claimed a resounding 79-47 victory over Merrol Hyde Magnet on the road. Given White House's advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 77th, while Merrol Hyde Magnet is ranked 313th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
White House's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bryce Hill, who scored 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Worrell, who scored 15 points along with 5 assists.
Despite the defeat, Merrol Hyde Magnet had strong showings from Tucker Smith, who scored 12 points along with 9 rebounds, and Sam Mullins, who scored 9 points. Smith scored a full 25.5% of Merrol Hyde Magnet's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Noah Beloney was another key contributor, scoring 4 points.
The victory makes it two in a row for White House and bumps their season record up to 4-1. As for Merrol Hyde Magnet, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-5.
White House will be playing in front of their home fans against Pearl-Cohn at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Merrol Hyde Magnet, they will head out on the road to face off against Valor College Prep at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Valor College Prep is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home.
