Baseball Recap: Butler Wins Going Away Against Independence

Butler barely beat Independence the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Bulldogs blew past the Patriots 10-3 on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.

Grayson DeBerry made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Butler: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 5-13 otherwise.

In other pitching news, Jackson Clark looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.

Back at the plate, Will Bauer was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Amir Carter, who went 1-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.

Butler's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-14. As for Independence, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-15.

As of now, neither Butler nor the Patriots have any future games scheduled.
