Baseball Game Preview: Chatham Charter Knights vs. Southern Alamance Patriots

The Chatham Charter Knights are headed away from home for the first time to challenge the Southern Alamance Patriots at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

While Knights fans will have to keep waiting for their squad to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Saturday's season opener. They blew past South Stokes 16-4 on Saturday.

Zach Cartrette and Luke Johnson made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Cartrette tossed two innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Johnson pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. What's more, Cartrette posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. At bat, Cartrette scored two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Johnson scored four runs while going 3-for-3.

In other batting news, Jace Young and M. (Jax) Young did most of the damage at the plate: Jace scored four runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while M. (Jax) scored three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. The dominant performance gave Jace a new career-high in runs. Another player making a difference was Brandon Rives, who went 1-for-3 with four RBI and one double.

Chatham Charter always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .639. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Stokes only posted an OBP of .417.

Meanwhile, Southern Alamance got the win against Clover Garden School on Friday by a conclusive 15-1.

Chatham Charter might still be hurting after the 8-2 defeat they got from Southern Alamance in their previous meeting back in March of 2018. Can Chatham Charter avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
