Baseball Recap: Calhoun County Has No Trouble Against Thornwell

There's no place like home for Calhoun County, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Thornwell with a sharp 15-3 victory on Thursday. The game marked Calhoun County's most dominant win of the season.

Christopher Glover, II made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, seven RBI, and three runs. He is becoming a predictor of Calhoun County's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is 3-1 (and 3-9 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Wayne Farmer, Jr. was incredible, going 1-for-3 with five stolen bases and four runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Eduardo 'Chippy' Ayon, Jr, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Calhoun County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .381. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Calhoun County's victory bumped their record up to 6-10. As for Thornwell, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 11 of their last 14 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-14 record this season.

Calhoun County will challenge Ware Shoals at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Saints' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Hornets have averaged an impressive 8 runs per game this season. Thornwell does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
