Volleyball Recap: Franklin Central Flashes vs. Carmel Greyhounds
Franklin Central proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by three) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the Carmel Greyhounds 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Flashes have posted since March 25th.
It was an exciting match in which no team won back-to-back sets, but at the end of the day Franklin Central got the one that really mattered. The match finished with set scores of 25-14, 17-25, 25-21, 21-25, 15-11.
Ethan Tatman paced Franklin Central's offense, picking up 18 kills. Tatman got some help from Anthony Suarez and his 23 assists. Daniel Pugh controlled things from the service line, finishing with three aces.
Griffin Holdcraft and Shepard Spidel certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Holdcraft had 11 digs and two assists, while Spidel had five digs and two blocks. Holdcraft is on a roll when it comes to digs, as he's now had ten or more in each of the last six games he's played. Lorenzo Orlando also deserves some recognition as he served his first aces of the season.
Franklin Central is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. As for Carmel, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-5-1.
Coming up, Franklin Central will take on Columbus North at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. The Flashes are facing the Bull Dogs at the right time seeing as the Bull Dogs are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Carmel, they will challenge Fishers at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Tigers will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something the Greyhounds surely won't give up without a fight.
