Baseball Recap: Mattoon Makes It Four in a Row at Home

Mattoon won the last time they faced Charleston and things went their way on Monday too. The Greenwave walked away with a 12-8 win over the Trojans. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Greenwave.

Zander Piper was excellent, scoring four runs while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Dallas Morton, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Piper wasn't the only one making solid contact: Mattoon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in May of 2024.

Mattoon's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Charleston, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Mattoon beat the Trojans by a score of 5-4 later that day.
