Softball Recap: Midway Green Wave vs. Sweetwater Wildcats
Midway had lost seven straight at home dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 2-15 to make it eight. They lost 13-4 to the Sweetwater Wildcats. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-0 back in March.
As for Sweetwater, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 18-3. Considering they have won 13 matches by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
For Sweetwater's part, Lillian Woodruff made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. What's more, Woodruff posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. She was also big at the plate, earning one RBI, two runs, and two stolen bases.
In other batting news, Baylee Bohrer was incredible, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with four stolen bases and three runs. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kylee Richeson, who went 4-for-5 with three RBI.
Midway has already played their next game, an 11-4 defeat against Rockwood on the 29th. As for Sweetwater, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 21-14 win against Copper Basin on the 29th.
