Football Recap: Lucas Takes a Loss

The Lucas Cubs didn't have quite enough to beat the Elgin Comets on Friday and fell 18-15. The Cubs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Leading Elgin to victory were Jack Van Gundy and Zack Bowers. Van Gundy rushed for 80 yards and two touchdowns, while Bowers rushed for 102 yards and one score on only eight carries. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 81 yards.

Lucas' loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Elgin, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Lucas will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Reynolds at 7:00 p.m. on October 10. As for Elgin, they will face off against Waynesfield-Goshen at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
