Baseball Recap: Blazer Comes Up Short

Blazer extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 13-19 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-4 heartbreaker at the hands of the Lawrence County Bulldogs. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Tomcats have suffered since March 22, 2024.

As for Lawrence County, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 18-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games.

For Lawrence County's part, Logan Whisenant and Tyger Cavins did most of the damage at the plate: Whisenant went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double, while Cavins went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Those three hits gave Cavins a new career-high. Cj Whitt was another key player, earning two runs and two stolen bases.

Looking ahead, Blazer will square off against Paintsville at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Lawrence County, they will take on East Carter at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
