Bishop Rosecrans is 0-4 against Berne Union since April of 2023 but things could change on Monday. The Bishops are taking a road trip to take on the Rockets at 5:15 p.m. Bishop Rosecrans is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
Fisher Catholic hit Bishop Rosecrans with a four-run third inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Bishops came up short against the Irish, falling 13-3.
Kate Ward was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Berne Union gave up the first runs on Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with a 20-15 victory over Fairfield Christian Academy. The Rockets haven't had any issues with the Knights recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Reese Besco made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 6.2 innings while giving up four earned (and seven unearned) runs off 11 hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Kori Hoplite was incredible, going 3-for-5 with five runs, four RBI, and one triple. Those five runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lauryn Kuhn, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Berne Union kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive matchups.
Berne Union pushed their record up to 9-6 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 24.7 runs over those games. As for Bishop Rosecrans, their loss dropped their record down to 1-6.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Bishop Rosecrans hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .373. However, it's not like Berne Union struggles in that department as they've averaged .393. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Bishop Rosecrans might still be hurting after the 18-8 defeat they got from Berne Union when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Bishops avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
