Baseball Recap: Villanova Prep Comes Up Short

Villanova Prep extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping them down to 4-7. They came up short against the Bishop Diego Cardinals, falling 10-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cardinals this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-2 on April 1st.

As for Bishop Diego, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 10-5. Considering they have won seven contests by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

For Bishop Diego's part, JJ Mercier made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over 5.2 innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Mercier has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ricky Fisher, who went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Bishop Diego: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Josh Lopez, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

While Villanova Prep had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 a.m. on Thursday.
