Baseball Game Recap: Middletown Middie Bears vs. Newburgh Free Academy Goldbacks

Middletown had lost four straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 5-5 to make it five. They wound up with the same score they had in their last game (3-2), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Jordan Champlain made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two RBI. Those RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season.

As for Newburgh Free Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games.

On Newburgh Free Academy's side, Edwin Nunez looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the most strikeouts Nunez has posted since back in April of 2024.

On the hitting side, Newburgh Free Academy saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Chris Leggett, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Middletown didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 3-2 win against Pine Bush on the 28th. As for Newburgh Free Academy, they will head out to take on Goshen Central at 4:15 p.m. on Friday.
