Football Game Preview: Godley Wildcats vs. Venus Bulldogs

Godley is a perfect 10-0 against Venus since November of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Wildcats will face off against the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. Venus took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Godley, who comes in off a win.

Fans were treated to a battle of the Wildcats on Thursday. Godley strolled past Dunbar with points to spare, taking the game 23-6.

Adam Pempsell had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 271 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.1 yards per carry. Those 271 rushing yards gave him a new career-high.

Pempsell was just one part of a punishing run game: Godley was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 323 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Venus' offense. They were dealt a 70-0 loss at the hands of Glen Rose on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 1120th, while the Tigers are ranked 355th).

Godley's win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 3-5. As for Venus, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-8.

Everything came up roses for Godley against Venus in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, as the team secured a 65-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
