St. Charles West is 9-0-1 against Duchesne since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Warriors will venture away from home to square off against the Pioneers at 5:30 p.m.
St. Charles West fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Fort Zumwalt East on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Lions by a score of 5-4.
Meanwhile, Duchesne had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Monday. They blew past the Wildcats 12-2. Considering the Pioneers have won three games by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Finnegan Ryan made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Ryan was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.
In other pitching news, Rudy Weber looked comfortable as he pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Jack Burle, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double. That triple was his first of the season. Jackson Nikodym was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
Duchesne's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-3. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for St. Charles West, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season.
St. Charles West beat Duchesne 7-4 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Warriors since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
