Football Recap: Cayden Blodgett's Menacing Defense Leads Greencastle over North Montgomery

Even if it wasn't a dominant performance, the Greencastle Tiger Cubs beat the North Montgomery Chargin' Chargers 48-42 on Friday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Tiger Cubs.

Cole Stephens had another great game (as he tends to do), throwing for 414 yards and three touchdowns while completing 78.4% of his passes, and also rushing for 45 yards and one TD. Those 45 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. A healthy portion of Stephens' aerial production (130 yards to be exact) went to Trevin Long, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Greencastle didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Cayden Blodgett, Alex Grove, and Long picked up one apiece. Grove also made five total tackles, which is notable because Greencastle is 2-1 when he posts at least three total tackles, but 1-2 otherwise. Another thorn in North Montgomery's side was Parker Welker, who made 20 total tackles (2.0 for loss).

The win got Greencastle back to even at 3-3. As for North Montgomery, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Looking ahead, Greencastle will host Cascade at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Tiger Cubs will need to watch out since the Cadets have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season. As for North Montgomery, they are taking a road trip to face off against Crawfordsville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Chargin' Chargers will be up against the Athenians' rather soft defense (which has allowed 32.5 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
