Basketball Game Preview: Ida Baker Bulldogs vs. Estero Wildcats

The Ida Baker Bulldogs will challenge the Estero Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Ida Baker has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with five straight losses, while Estero will come in with five straight wins.

Ida Baker's tournament run continued when they took on Babcock on Saturday. Ida Baker had to suffer through a 48-19 loss at the hands of Babcock. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 459th, while the Trailblazers are ranked 200th).

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Estero). They blew past Riverdale 62-24 on Friday. The Wildcats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four games by 33 points or more this season.

Ida Baker better keep an eye on Amiya Lewis. She was instrumental in Estero's win, going 16 for 27 on her way to 37 points and eight rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Lewis has scored at least a third of Estero's points. Jordyn Vaill was another key player, putting up nine points.

Estero smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in 12 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Estero's victory bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Ida Baker, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-10.

Ida Baker strolled past Estero when the teams last played back in January of 2024 by a score of 49-34. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Lewis, who went 11 of 17 on her way to 28 points and five rebounds.
