For the second straight game, Kearns will face off against Hunter. The Cougars will head out to take on the Wolverines at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. Kearns has given up an average of 10.6 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Kearns heads in on the heels of a playoff matchup on Friday. They took an 11-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of Hunter. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
For Hunter's part, LEILA AIONO was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. Those eight strikeouts gave AIONO a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on KENYA LAPUAHO, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last 11 contests. ALEXA OLSEN was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and one stolen base.
Hunter was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. They are 16-5 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
The win (which was Hunter's sixth in a row) raised their record to 18-9. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Kearns, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-17.
Monday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Kearns has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .504. However, it's not like Hunter struggles in that department as they've averaged .522. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
