Basketball Recap: Wekiva Takes a Loss

Wekiva was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were beaten by the Williston Red Devils 54-24. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 293rd, while the Red Devils are ranked 24th).

Tiana Washington and Julissa Miles certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Washington posted seven points and five rebounds, while Miles had four points.

Williston's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Janiyah Span, who earned eight points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashlyn Young, who put up ten points.

Wekiva's defeat dropped their record down to 3-10. As for Williston, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-1.

Wekiva won't have much time to rest: their next game is against DeLand at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. DeLand will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something Wekiva surely won't give up without a fight. As for Williston, they also won't have to wait long for more action: they'll challenge North Florida Educational Institute at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Williston is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.6 points per game this season.
