Bassett hasn't had much luck against Edgewood recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Olympians will head out on the road to face off against the Lions at 3:30 p.m. Bassett has given up an average of 16.1 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Bassett is headed into Tuesday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 18th straight game dating back to last season on Thursday. They lost 15-1 to Pomona.
Bassett saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Issac Vargas, who went 2-for-3 with one run. Those hits were Vargas' first of the season.
Meanwhile, Edgewood entered their tilt with La Puente last Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victors by a 14-1 margin over the Warriors. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by six runs or more this season.
Raymond Tafolla was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Noah Ramirez, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Edgewood is 6-1 when Ramirez posts two or more runs, but 5-7 otherwise. Tony Madriz was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Edgewood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as La Puente only posted an OBP of .176.
Bassett's defeat dropped their record down to 0-15. As for Edgewood, their record now sits at 11-8.
Bassett suffered a grim 12-0 defeat to Edgewood when the teams last played back in March. Can the Olympians avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
