Softball Recap: Pike County Central Comes Up Short

Pike County Central had lost five straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 12-12 to make it six. They came up short against the Hazard Bulldogs / Lady Bulldogs, falling 11-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Hawks have suffered against the Bulldogs / Lady Bulldogs since April 4, 2015.

As for Hazard, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-7. With that victory, they brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

For Hazard's part, Peyton Fields was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Fields has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Halle Jones, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Addyson Maggard also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pike County Central will square off against Blazer at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Hazard, they will take on Shelby Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.65 runs per game on average), something the Bulldogs / Lady Bulldogs will no doubt try to take advantage of.
