Baseball Game Preview: Grafton Bearcats vs. Bridgeport Indians

Grafton is 1-7 against Bridgeport since April of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Bearcats will challenge the Indians at 5:00 p.m. Grafton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.

Grafton will bounce into Thursday's matchup after beating East Fairmont, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Bearcats came out on top against the Bees by a score of 10-7 on Wednesday. The game was the first time the Bearcats have beaten the Bees on their field since May 1, 2017.

Mason Sheme made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Grafton is 4-1 when Sheme allows one or fewer hits, but 5-6 otherwise. Sheme was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Greyson Ramezan was incredible, scoring two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had over his last 11 games. Another player making a difference was Carter Gillespie, who scored three runs while going 3-for-5.

Grafton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, while Bridgeport put up some runs on Wednesday, the same can't be said for Preston. The Indians had just enough and edged out the Knights 2-0. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Indians.

Grafton's record now sits at 9-7. As for Bridgeport, their record is now 8-3.

Grafton suffered a grim 16-3 defeat to Bridgeport in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Bearcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
