Football Recap: Effingham County Falls to Houston County in First Game of Season + How To Watch

Effingham County unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They lost to the Houston County Bears at home by a 56-42 margin on Friday. The game was a 35-35 toss-up at halftime, but the Rebels couldn't quite close it out.

When it comes to explaining why Effingham County lost, don't look at Kris Swinney. Despite the final result, he rushed for 60 yards and three scores, and also threw for 65 yards and one touchdown on only six passes. Isaiah (Zeke) Brown was another key player, picking up 97 receiving yards and one TD.

Colin Anderson had a dynamite game For Houston County., rushing for 195 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 13 carries, while also picking up 58 receiving yards and one score. Those 195 rushing yards gave Anderson a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ryan Maxwell, who threw for 303 yards and four TDs while picking up 15.2 yards per attempt.

Houston County has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.
