Basketball Recap: Ledyard Comes Up Short

If Ledyard was feeling good fresh off their 77-40 takedown of Lyman Memorial last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Ledyard Colonels took a 49-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Fitch Falcons. The Colonels were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Falcons earlier this season, when they won 54-46.

Fitch got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Synaa Waters out in front who went 6-for-15 on her way to 19 points and six rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Waters has scored at least a third of Fitch's points. Katherine Wenger was another key player, going 5-for-8 to rack up 11 points and four steals.

Ledyard has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-6 record this season. Fitch now has a winning record of 11-10.

Ledyard will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on East Lyme at 5:30 p.m. on March 3rd. Ledyard is facing East Lyme at the right time seeing as East Lyme is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Fitch, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 41-30 defeat against Norwich Free Academy on the 22nd.
