Dresden and Lake County are an even 5-5 against one another since September of 2015, but not for long. The Lions will welcome the Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Dresden is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last seven games.
Dresden barely beat South Fulton the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Lions blew past the Red Devils 51-14 on Friday. Considering the Lions have won six contests by more than 27 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Dresden's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Luke Di Pietro led the charge by rushing for 272 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 12.4 yards per carry. The team also got some help courtesy of Bruce Willis, who rushed for 113 yards and a pair of TDs on only 13 carries.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Dresden was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 446 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 196 rushing yards in seven consecutive games.
Dresden's defense stepped up as well, laying out Grant Joyner three times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Aiden Essary, Mika Lawrence, and Brody Taylor, who each picked up one sack apiece. Another thorn in South Fulton's side was Essary, who picked up a sack, forced two fumbles, and made eight total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, Lake County was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 26-21 to Greenfield. That's two games in a row now that the Falcons have lost by exactly five points.
Although Lake County took the loss, they still got scores from Randy Demo and Ka'Devon Gross.
Dresden's win bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Lake County, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-4.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Dresden has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 284.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Lake County struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 247.9 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
