Basketball Recap: Capital Jaguars vs. Santa Fe Demons
The Capital Jaguars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their ninth straight loss. They took a 44-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of Santa Fe. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Capital of the 39-28 loss they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2023.
Capital's loss came despite strong showings from Annica Montoya and Shania Gallegos. Montoya scored 19 points along with five steals, while Gallegos scored 14 points along with four steals. It was the first time this season that Montoya scored 15 or more points.
Capital has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 13 of their last 14 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-17 record this season. As for Santa Fe, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 7-13.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Capital will take on the Monarchs at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in New Mexico (Manzano is ranked 94th, while the Jaguars are ranked 106th). As for Santa Fe, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Ravens at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
