Softball Recap: Camelback Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Desert Ridge, Camelback was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They came out on top against the Carl Hayden Community Falcons by a score of 17-13. The victory was some much needed relief for the Spartans as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

Zitlalit Perez Corrales made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over 4.1 innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off only one hit. Perez Corrales was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles.

In other batting news, Camelback got a big performance out of Emily 'Lotus' Bautista, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Samay Ramos, who scored two runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Camelback always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.

Camelback's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Carl Hayden Community, they dropped their record down to 1-5 with the defeat, which was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Camelback will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Dobson at 3:45 p.m. on March 17th. Camelback has given up an average of 16.8 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week. Carl Hayden Community also won't see the field for a while: their next matchup is against McClintock at 3:45 p.m. on March 17th.
