Baseball Recap: Unity Reed Takes a Loss

Unity Reed extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping their season record down to 1-12 in the process. They came up short against the Potomac Senior Panthers, falling 12-2. That's two games in a row now that the Lions have lost by exactly ten runs.

Unity Reed saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nolan Rafferty - JR, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

As for Potomac Senior, their record now sits at 6-7. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their two-run performance the contest before.

On Potomac Senior's side, Theo Thomas spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up nine Ks.

At the plate, Mike Izquierdo and Oliver Rose did most of the damage at the plate: Izquierdo went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Rose went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Potomac Senior is undefeated when Izquierdo posts two or more runs, but 3-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Carmine Burkhart, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple.

When Unity Reed and Potomac Senior next hit the field, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. The Lions will try to stop Battlefield's nine-game winning streak when they meet at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Potomac Senior will take on Charles J. Colgan and their three-game winning streak at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
