Baseball Recap: East Wilkes Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for East Wilkes, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They skirted past the South Stokes Sauras 8-7. This was a revenge game for the Cardinals: when they faced off against the Sauras last Tuesday, they had to take a 9-7 loss.

Dalton Wood was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

In other batting news, Ayden Guessford was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Mason Jones, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and one triple.

East Wilkes kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.

East Wilkes' win bumped their record up to 7-3. As for South Stokes, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-8.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. East Wilkes will host Alleghany at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for South Stokes, they will take on Providence Grove at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
