Volleyball Recap: Thales Academy Apex Takes a Loss

Thales Academy Apex was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat dating back to last season. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Wayne Christian Eagles. The Titans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in August of 2022.

Thales Academy Apex took a 2-1 lead headed into the fourth set, but sadly they lost the next two. The final score came out to 25-19, 23-25, 24-26, 25-14, 15-12.

Evelyn Shock paced Thales Academy Apex's offense, picking up 20 kills. Shock got some help from Ellie Hutchinson and her 28 assists. Finally, Kaitlin Milstead kept Thales Academy Apex's defense grounded, leading the team with six blocks.

Wayne Christian was led to victory by Ava Byrd and Alanna Verme. Byrd had 14 digs and two aces, while Verme had 25 kills, 16 digs, and four aces. Verme is crushing it when it comes to kills: she's had at least 12 every time she's taken the court this season.

Thales Academy Apex's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Wayne Christian, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 4-1.

Thales Academy Apex has already played their next match (against Cary Academy), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Wayne Christian, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-2 loss against Rocky Mount Academy on the 25th.
