Basketball Recap: Overton Comes Up Short

Overton won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Friday. They were beaten by the Shelton Bulldogs 61-25. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldogs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Overton lost, don't look at Gracen Hughes. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds. With that strong performance, Hughes is now averaging an impressive 8.1 rebounds per game.

Overton now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Shelton, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 8-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Overton will square off against Amherst at 6:00 p.m. on January 10th. As for Shelton, they will face off against Gibbon at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Shelton is facing Gibbon at the right time seeing as Gibbon is stuck on a nine-game losing streak.
