Recap: Smithville Seminoles vs. Belmont Cardinals

After a string of three wins, the Smithville Seminoles's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They lost to Belmont at home by a decisive 68-53 margin. Smithville was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Belmont apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in November of 2020.

It was another big night for Ty Ramsey, who scored 35 points along with nine rebounds for Belmont. That makes it three consecutive games in which Ramsey has scored at least 25% of Belmont's points. Khalil Luster was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with nine rebounds.

Smithville now has a losing record at 5-6. As for Belmont, they pushed their record up to 12-5 with that victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Smithville and Okolona will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 9th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. One thing working in Okolona's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last five contests. As for Belmont, they will head out on the road to face off against Walnut at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Mississippi (Walnut is ranked 145th, while Belmont is ranked 123rd).
