Football Preview: Hanford Falcons vs. Chiawana Riverhawks
Hanford hasn't had much luck against Chiawana recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Hanford Falcons will be playing in front of their home fans against the Chiawana Riverhawks at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Hanford gave up the first points last Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They slipped by Walla Walla 25-24.
Meanwhile, Chiawana got themselves on the board against Hermiston on Friday, but Hermiston never followed suit. They breezed by the Bulldogs at home to the tune of 56-0. Given the Riverhawks' advantage in MaxPreps' Washington football rankings (they are ranked 13th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 149th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Gage Williams had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 47 yards and two touchdowns. He also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, picking up a sack and making a tackle. Tristan Breier got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Chiawana was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 262 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hermiston only rushed for -39.
One reason for the win was Chiawana's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Ethan Elward was especially locked on to Hermiston's QB and sacked him twice.
Hanford's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Chiawana, they pushed their record up to 2-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.
