Baseball Game Preview: Oceanside Pirates vs. Westview Wolverines

For the second straight game, Oceanside will face off against Westview. The Pirates will head out on the road to face off against the Wolverines at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Oceanside took a seven-run defeat the last time they faced off against Westview, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Pirates narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Wolverines 5-3. The win was some much needed relief for the Pirates as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

For Westview's part, they got a good showing from Miles Russell, who tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Russell has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Westview saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mahir Desai, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Westview's loss ended a seven-game streak of away wins and brought them to 18-7. As for Oceanside, their victory bumped their record up to 9-16.
