Softball Recap: Mountain View Snags Eighth Win in Last Nine Games

Mountain View proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by seven) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Rocky Mountain Grizzlies 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Mavericks have posted since March 28th.

Katy Jackson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on five hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 16 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Mountain View's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Emily Castiglione, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Aleynah Vega also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Mountain View has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Rocky Mountain, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-11 record this season.

Mountain View will venture away from home to take on Ridgevue at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Mavericks are facing the Warhawks at the right time seeing as the Warhawks are stuck on a 17-game losing streak. As for Rocky Mountain, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Meridian at 5:00 p.m. The Warriors have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.68 runs per game on average), something the Grizzlies will no doubt try to take advantage of.
