Basketball Recap: Asheboro Sets Scoring Season-High Against Montgomery Central

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Asheboro). They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat the Montgomery Central Timberwolves 72-36. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Blue Comets as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.

Leading Asheboro to victory were Eli Johnson and Osiris Rodriguez. Johnson went 7 of 10 en route to 17 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals, while Rodriguez dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 boards. The contest was Rodriguez's third in a row with at least ten points. Elijah Woodle was another key player, putting up seven points along with seven assists and four steals.

Asheboro was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Montgomery Central lost, don't look at Brady Fowler. Despite the final result, he posted 13 points and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Chavis Bowden, who put up six points.

Asheboro's win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 11-6. As for Montgomery Central, they are on a 28-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-15.

Asheboro didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 48-46 victory against Oak Grove on the 28th. As for Montgomery Central, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, an 80-50 loss against North Davidson on the 28th.
